Nigeria signed an MOU with Volkswagen Automotive to develop the automobile industry in Nigeria. This was revealed by Mr. Bisi Daniels, the Strategy and Communications Adviser to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.
The MOU was signed by Mr Okechukwu Enelamah, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment for Nigeria and Thomas Schaefer the Head of the Sub-Saharan Region of Volkswagen, signed on behalf of Volkswagen Group.
Nigeria in the future is to become an automotive hub in West Africa. This is to be achieved by establishing training academies in partnership with the German government to train the first batch of employees.
The Nigerian Government is to slowly move from importation of vehicles to manufacturing, assembling and distribution of vehicles. The Government is also to provide a conducive environment for vehicle production in the country.
This is one of the steps of the Nigerian government to make Nigeria a gateway to the West African market. With this feat, Nigeria is to also became a haven for other investors and shareholders.
