The People’s Republic of China has pledged to establish a cassava processing plant in Nigeria.
The Marketing Manager, Green Agriculture West Africa Limited (GAWAL), Mr. John Wen, said this during the training on cassava processing in Abuja.
Wen said the project, implemented by the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), under the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in conjunction with GAWAL, would be completed by the end of September.
In his words, “CATAS now is establishing a cassava processing mill in Abuja and once this plant is put in place we will process cassava in Nigeria. Hopefully, before the end of September, we will install all the equipments in the plant.”
The manager also disclosed that the project which is in its first phase will later expand in line with the market’s response on the finished cassava products.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director, Division of International Cooperation,CATAS, Mr. Liu Haiquing, said the cooperation between countries on agriculture was vital and in line with the China-Africa cooperation plans.
