The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund NSITF on thursday placed total claims and other compensations paid out to workers as a result of workplace injuries at N835m.
The expenses was incured through January 2017 to June 2018, cutting across health medical refund – N202.9m, death benefit N261m, disability benefit N74m and loss of productivity for employers at N8m.
Adebayo Somefun, Fund’s Managing Director said, no fewer than 42 persons have been provided with artificial limbs/parts to cover for the loss of their limbs.
Some of them he said are currently undergoing training on the appropriate use of the limbs.
The Fund disclosed this yesterday in Abuja at the NSITF special day at the ongoing Abuja International Trade Fair, organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry ABCI.
“As a Fund, NSITF has been making giant strides and in the last one year alone, the Fund has paid for 42 artificial limbs/parts to cater for workers who lost their limbs while carrying out their duties at work.
“However, it is not only about the limbs, the Employees’ Compensation Scheme provides for other categories of benefits. Between January 2017 and June 2018, the Fund has paid out N835, 318, 858, 62kobo to beneficiaries as claims and compensation.
“This is to say that those who have benefitted from this special scheme run by the Fund include 298 injured employees placed on monthly or periodic payment.
