2018 NEF: Experts Advocate Govt. Investment in Innovative Hubs.

Experts at the just concluded 2018 Next Einstein Forum (NEF) African Science Week in Nigeria has identified massive innovation hub in Nigeria as a sure and most rapid way of moving Nigeria out of her current science and technological backwardness.

The Founder and Executive Director of the African Center for Innovation and Leadership Development (ACILD),Dr. Obidimma Ezezika stated that apart from doing more to foster innovation and leadership in Africa and Nigeria in particular, through the empowerment of science and technology researchers and leaders,especially youth and women, Nigerian government need to massively invest in innovation hubs in order to practically move Nigeria up in the science and technology sector.

The 4-day event which was organised by The Next Einstein Forum (NEF) in collaboration with African Center for Innovation and Leadership Development (ACILD) featured science expo, debate competition, science boot camp workshop ,STEM road show, inventors’ exhibition and Women In Science Talk Show and Awards with the theme: Too Few Women In Science: The Way Forward.
3 key speakers inspired the audience at the event beginning with Engr.Damilola Anwo-Ade, who traceed the reasons why there are few women in science in Nigeria to, among other things, the mindset that science is tough. She however encouraged women to be deaf to the obstacles and embrace science because according to her, “We need more women in science because it is necessary, though not easy”.

Another speaker at the event, Engr. Igwegbe Nnenna, on her part, identified lack of support and understanding of parents and relatives as key reasons for less inerest of  young girls in Nigeria to take to science. She encouraged women to be persistent in their resolve while calling on parents and guardians to encourage and instill the needed family values and confidence that will help their wards to go into science.

Theresa Ezenwankwo, another speaker, on her part stated that more women needed to be encouraged to take to sciences to help achieve reasonable success because according to her, “Women are among the last two creations of God, but the first for any successful project “
