On the occasion of the 2020 Democracy Day celebration, the President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Prince Adetokunbo Kayode has called on the federal government to embark on activities that will integrate many Nigerians into economic development activities.
In a message contained in a press release which he personally signed, Prince Kayode said such efforts will ensure that there is a connected development.
According to him, in spite of the ravaging effect of the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic Nigeria, as the giant of Africa needs to mobilise her population’s energy and channel same into productive ventures that will engender socioeconomic development.
“We celebrate the 21st anniversary of Nigeria’s uninterrupted democratic journey today. But aside from the political attachment to it, my concern is the overarching need to develop the Nigerian economy.
“I therefore call on the federal government of Nigeria, particularly the National Economic Council (NEC), heading by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to quickly put modalities in place to integrate the younger generation of Nigerians into economic activities.
“By doing this, not only will our youths be productively engaged but all hands will be on deck to move the country’s economy forward. They will imbibe the culture of ‘thinking outside the box’. And we need to mobilise the critical mass for this much needed initiative.
“Now that oil revenue is no longer making any useful impact, we need to navigate into the low hanging fruits of agriculture, solid minerals and Information and Communication Technology (ICT)”, Prince Kayode noted.
He enjoined the political class to also bring out innovative ways to imbibe entrepreneurial and vocational skills to their constituents.
