The first annual edition of the Nigeria-Liberia Business Forum has been scheduled to hold in April, 2021.
This was part of discussions between the Director-General of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Ms Victoria Akai and the Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Prof Al. Hassan Conteh.
The DG who was at the Liberian embassy on Wednesday to discuss ways to foster partnership with the Embassy said the meeting was also aimed at revitalizing the process of the Business Forum.
The aim of the forum is to promote economic cooperation and regional integration between Nigeria and Liberia.
While reviewing the concept note of the proposed Business Forum, the DG told the Ambassador that the embassy should go beyond relating with just ACCI, suggesting that the National body is Chambers of Commerce in Nigeria, NACCIMA, FEWACCI, and regional chambers should be included.
She also pleaded that a session should be included for women to encourage their participation, since women are known to play a significant role in international trade.
The DG also requested that data on trade between Liberia and Nigeria be shared with the Chamber to aid with planning and advocacy.
She further recommended that the embassy should consider establishing the Nigerian-Liberian Business Council to further enhance trade activities and partnerships.
Speaking earlier, the Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Prof Al. Hassan Conteh who decried that although the level of trade between Nigeria and Liberia is large, the Balance of Trade between both countries is not known.
He expressed delight at the proposed business forum adding that this would make it easy for trade relations adding that it was important for ECOWAS members to trade amongst themselves.
