Taraba State Government has solicited support of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA in the establishment of Special Economic Zones in the State.
The Governor of the State, Mr Darius Ishaku made the appeal when he visited the Managing Director of NEPZA, Professor Adesoji Adesugba in Abuja.
Mr Ishaku said the move became necessary to further enhance economic development of Taraba State.
According to the Governor, the Special Economic Zone would also ensure job creation and empowerment to teeming youths and women in the State.
Governor Ishaku who said the State was blessed with mineral resources, agricultural products and abundant tourism potential explained that the Special Economic Zone would be located in three different areas in the State.
Responding, the Managing Director of NEPZA, Professor Adesoji Adesugba expressed NEPZA’s readiness to assist Taraba State Government towards realizing its dream of a Special Economic Zone.
Professor Adesugba who identified industrialization as the way to go advised other State Governments to key into NEPZA’s economic programmes to aid diversification of the nation’s economy.
The NEPZA Managing Director stated that the time has come for Nigeria to emulate countries like China, Turkey, Ethiopia among others in the area of industrialization.
He said this would go a long way to combat unemployment through technology and skills acquisition.
The NEPZA Managing Director therefore advised Governments at all levels to give more priority to programmes that would complement the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration on job creation, poverty reduction and economic development.
