Northern Nigerian Economy Will Be Boosted, Expanded At A Faster Pace-ACCI

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), has predicted that the economy of the northern part of the country will experience a huge boost and growth level as a result of the activities of the Kaduna Inland Dry Port (KIDP) and other dry ports that are being planned for the region.

Director-General of the Chamber, Ms Victoria Akai stated this on Abuja ON Tuesday while hosting members of Kaduna Inland Dry Port headed by the Port’s General Manager, Rotimi Haza.

She explained that KIDP is a model being used in establishing other dry Ports in the country stating that the Port is a trail blazer.

Ms Akai stated that the Chamber chose to partner with the KIDP in collaboration with GIZ in using the port for policy study adding that “KIDP should work closely with the ACCI, especially to leverage on the Chamber’s network to market the dry port”.

She informed the gathering of the close working relationship ACCI has with National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) adding that “I think our relationship will be very beneficial, let us work together and I am sure we will make a lot of progress with KIDP”.

While speaking the General Manager of KIDP, Rotimi Haza also who expressed desire for KIDP to partner with the Chamber on policies and programmes that can boost the operations of dry ports in the country.

He said told the gathering that Kaduna inland dry port is a 1 of inland container Nigeria limited and has been operating as a bonded terminal since 1982 before the Federal Government granted an approval for the Kaduna bonded terminal to be upgraded to the status of a Dry Port.

He said the Port is now operating as a Port for export and of destination for import which he emphasized as the first of its kind in the country.

The Port which was commissioned in January 2018, according to Haza is equipped to handle more than 29,000 containers per annum and it is designed to accommodate over 600 containers.
