The Nigerian Maritime Administration And Safety Agency (NIMASA) on Thursday held its Special Day at the ongoing Abuja International Trade Fair currently ongoing in Abuja.
The event which was aimed at showcasing the agencies activities and products to the general public garnered so many interested participants who were keen on knowing what the agency was about and what services it renders. While welcoming guests at the event, President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Prince Adetokunbo Kayode said NIMASA is a key agency in the development of Nigeria, adding that the agency’s participation has impacted the success of this year’s Fair.
The President, who was represented by the Vice President Mines of the Chamber, Dr Johnson Anene told the gathering that the Chamber operates through four centers including the Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre, the Abuja Trade Center (ATC), the Dispute Resolution Centre (DRC), and the Policy Advocacy Centre (PAC).
He however regretted that the Covid-19 pandemic did affect businesses adding that “we are encouraged to push forward and promote trade beyond our borders, as well as promote investment”.
The ACCI boss further stressed that the relationship between NIMASA and the Chamber is key in further promoting businesses.
While delivering the welcome address, the Director-General of NIMASA Dr Bashir Jamoh who was represented by the Head of Shipping & Promotions Unit, Mr. Momoh Alhassan expressed delight to be at the Fair.
He said NIMASA is the regulatory and promotional maritime agency established by the NIMASA Act 2007 to promote the development of indegenoud commercial shipping in international and coastal shipping trade.
He said the agency is also aimed at regulating and promoting Maritime safety, security, marine pollution and maritime labour.
Other members of the NIMASA crew in attendance include Mr. Abubakar Jika – Head of Business development cabotage department, NIMASA, Hajiya Adiza Abu – Chief public relations officer, NIMASA, Ms. Dolapo Kuku – Principal shipping development officer, NIMASA, Mr. Nnamdi Enejere – Shipping development officer, NIMASA.
