The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday charged Nigerian businesses to embrace ICT to make it more competitive across the globe.
President of the Chamber, Alhaji Al-Mujtaba Abubakar disclosed this at a webinar organised by NASSCOM and ACCI with the theme, Nigeria-India Partnership, Towards a Structured ICT Market and Digital Economy.
Alhaji Abubakar said the collaboration between Nigeria and India in the area of technology exchanges is expected to build a mutually beneficial long-term partnership between both Nigeria and India.
He said the partnership will benefit both sides in terms of leveraging technology, business growth and employment and also in creating a platform for exchanges of ideas.
“Our desire at the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) is to contribute meaningfully to and expand business activities through Information Technology which will bring about an increasing advancement of ICT solutions” .
“Here in the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Digital Economy is a very important sector to us. In 2020, we had an e-commerce webinar where key stakeholders and top practitioners were invited within the Nigerian e-commerce sector. One of the outcomes of the Meeting was that the should institute a consolidated legal framework for the sub-sector to enhance its sustainability and expansion” he stated.
He further explained that Nigeria’s ICT sector remains a critical non-oil growth driver and major contributor to the economy, supported by a sizeable young population and the rapid adoption of mobile internet services.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has had a sweeping impact on economic activity, Alhaji Al-Mujtaba has also resulted in an exceptional surge for the ICT sector.
He told the gathering that the Chamber has established association and linkages aimed at advocating policies and programmes on ICT in order to enhance and sustain businesses.
