MKO Foundation Launches Mitcheal’s Legacy Outreach to Promote Disability Inclusion in Schools

Over 500 students sensitised at GSS Kubwa as five-day campaign promotes empathy, acceptance and support for children with special needs

Abuja, October 27, 2026

The Mitcheal Temitope Foundation (MKO) has launched its Mitcheal’s Legacy school outreach programme at Government Secondary School (GSS), Kubwa, Abuja, to promote disability awareness and foster a culture of empathy, acceptance and inclusion among young people.

The five-day campaign, which commenced on Monday, October 26, combines teacher guides with student engagement sessions to challenge misconceptions about disability and encourage respect for the dignity and potential of persons with disabilities.

More than 500 students participated in the opening-day session, which focused on disability awareness, inclusive attitudes, and the importance of supporting families and caregivers. Students also had opportunities to ask questions and explore how their everyday actions can help create a more welcoming school environment.

According to the foundation, the turnout and students’ response underscored the value of introducing conversations about disability inclusion in schools. The initiative encourages young people to recognise the abilities and contributions of persons with disabilities rather than define them by perceived limitations.

The organiser and convener of the outreach, Dr Tinuke Temitope noted that nurturing empathy and understanding among students is central to challenging stigma, discrimination, and building a society in which everyone has opportunities to participate.

part of the outreach, the foundation scheduled visits to Government Secondary School, Gosa, and Government Secondary School, Lugbe, for Tuesday, October 27.

The sessions aim to reach more students with practical messages on acceptance, respect and inclusion, while highlighting the role of families and caregivers in supporting the well-being and participation of persons with disabilities.

The organiser and convener of the outreach, Dr Tinuke Temitope described the programme as an expression of its commitment to preserving Mitcheal’s legacy through school engagement, meaningful conversations and sustained efforts to change perceptions about disability.

It’s campaign message, “See the ability, not the limitation,” reflects the initiative’s emphasis on recognising the dignity, potential and contributions of every individual.

She also called on members of the public to follow its activities, share the campaign’s message and support efforts to build communities where persons with disabilities are understood, accepted and included.

She added that the initiative continue with four more secondary school in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the foundation will also host a caregivers’ meet-up on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

For the business and development community, the outreach carries a message of shared responsibility: inclusive education and equal opportunities are essential to building a society in which everyone can participate and contribute meaningfully.
