NAMA Deepens Public Awareness on Aviation Safety at Abuja Trade Fair

ABUJA — October 7, 2026

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has used the ongoing 21st Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF) to deepen public awareness of its critical role in ensuring safe, efficient and reliable air navigation services across Nigeria.

NAMA’s participation in the trade fair, organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), is aimed at increasing public visibility, strengthening stakeholder engagement and providing Nigerians with a clearer understanding of the agency’s mandate within the aviation sector.

Speaking at the NAMA exhibition stand, Public Affairs Officers of the agency, Mr. Chisom Nwankwo and Mr. Joseph Atim, said the agency’s presence at the trade fair was also an opportunity to address misconceptions about its responsibilities and educate visitors on the systems and technologies that support safe air travel.

Nwankwo explained that NAMA is responsible for providing air navigation services that guide aircraft safely from take-off to landing, including the provision of essential navigational information to pilots and aircraft operators.

He said the agency deploys critical aviation infrastructure and technologies, including radar systems, Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), glide slope equipment and control towers, to support safe and efficient movement of aircraft within Nigeria’s airspace.

«“In ensuring the safety of Nigeria’s airspace, we use instruments like radar, Instrument Landing System, glide slope and the control tower. These help us provide navigational information to pilots and aircraft to ensure safe flight from point A to point B,”Nwankwo said.»

He stressed that public understanding of NAMA’s mandate remains important, noting that Nigerians sometimes confuse the responsibilities of the various agencies operating within the aviation sector.

“What we want people to know is that NAMA is responsible for providing air navigation information to aircraft to ensure safe flights and a secure airspace,” he said.

According to him, greater awareness of NAMA’s operations would enable the public to better appreciate the technology, technical expertise and coordinated systems required to maintain a safe and reliable aviation environment.

Nwankwo described the agency’s participation at the 21st AITF as successful, noting the strong interest generated among visitors who have engaged NAMA officials to learn about air navigation operations, aviation safety systems and the agency’s contribution to Nigeria’s transport infrastructure.

He said trade fairs such as the AITF provide valuable platforms for government agencies and other critical institutions to interact directly with citizens, businesses and stakeholders, while showcasing their contributions to national development.

Beyond aviation safety, NAMA’s activities have wider economic implications, as efficient air navigation services support connectivity, facilitate business travel and tourism, enhance the movement of people and goods, and contribute to the growth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s aviation industry.

NAMA’s participation in the 21st Abuja International Trade Fair therefore reinforces the importance of public advocacy and stakeholder engagement in building greater understanding and confidence in Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem, while highlighting the agency’s contribution to a safer and more efficient airspace.

What Investors Need to Know

A safe and efficiently managed airspace is critical to the growth of Nigeria’s aviation and wider economy. Effective air navigation services support airlines, airports, businesses and passengers by facilitating reliable connectivity, while contributing to tourism, investment and commercial activities across the country.
