ACCI Marks World Food Day 2026, Calls for Innovation to Strengthen Food Security.
Chamber Urges Investment in Agricultural Technology, Food Processing and Sustainable Food Systems
October 16, 2026
The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has joined the global community in commemorating World Food Day 2026, calling for greater innovation, strategic investment and stronger public-private partnerships to improve food security and build sustainable food systems in Nigeria.
The 2026 theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow,” highlights the importance of innovative solutions in addressing food insecurity, improving agricultural productivity and ensuring access to safe, nutritious and affordable food. It also underscores the need to embrace modern agricultural technologies, support food entrepreneurs and promote sustainable practices across the food production and distribution chain.
For Nigeria, the observance provides an opportunity to strengthen collaboration among government institutions, private-sector operators, farmers, investors and other stakeholders to address persistent challenges across the agricultural value chain.
Increased investment in agricultural technology, improved access to affordable financing, modern storage facilities and efficient transportation systems could significantly reduce post-harvest losses, expand market access, create jobs and improve the availability of food across the country.
The President of ACCI, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to private-sector development and enterprise growth, emphasising the importance of partnerships that promote agricultural innovation, strengthen food-related businesses and advance sustainable economic development.
He noted that supporting agricultural enterprises, particularly Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in farming, food processing, packaging, storage and distribution, remains critical to improving local food supplies, generating income and creating employment opportunities.
The Chamber recognises that a stronger agricultural sector requires an enabling business environment that encourages investment, facilitates access to finance, promotes technology adoption and supports the growth of businesses across the food value chain.
As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark World Food Day 2026, the occasion serves as a reminder that sustainable food security requires collective action, strategic investment and innovative thinking.
By embracing innovation today, Nigeria can build a more resilient and productive agricultural sector capable of nourishing future generations while creating economic opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and businesses across the country.
