International Workers’ Day : ACCI Celebrates Nigerian Workers, Emphasizes Peace, Stability, and Economic Renewal May 1,2026.
The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the voice of the business community in the Federal Capital Territory and its environs, joins the global community in commemorating International Workers’ Day 2026. This year’s observance, themed “Striving for Peace and Stability to Drive Industrialisation, Trade, and Decent Work for Social Justice,” underscores the urgent need to create an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
The Chamber celebrates the resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions of Nigerian workers, whose efforts continue to sustain businesses, drive productivity, and support national development despite prevailing economic challenges. ACCI emphasizes that peace and stability remain fundamental prerequisites for economic recovery, industrial expansion, and the creation of decent jobs.
In his goodwill message, the President of ACCI, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, PhD, commended Nigerian workers for their unwavering commitment and enterprise. He described them as the backbone of national progress and vital contributors to both economic advancement and societal stability.
“Today, we celebrate the hardworking men and women whose efforts sustain our economy and strengthen our nation. Their resilience and determination continue to inspire hope and drive growth across all sectors,” he stated.
Chief Obegolu noted that the Nigerian workforce spans both formal and informal sectors, including artisans, entrepreneurs, and small business operators, all of whom play a critical role in driving industrialisation, trade, and inclusive economic development.
He further highlighted that achieving the objectives of this year’s theme requires deliberate efforts to strengthen labour relations, implement inclusive socio-economic policies, and ensure that workers are provided with fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for growth.
“As a Chamber representing the business community, we believe that productivity thrives in an environment where workers are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. We therefore advocate for policies that promote decent work and bridge the gap between policy formulation and implementation, particularly within the informal sector,” he added.
Chief Obegolu also reiterated the need for government at all levels to prioritize pro-worker and pro-growth policies, including the review of minimum wage structures and the creation of a stable and secure business environment that supports both employers and employees.
He paid special tribute to members of the Chamber and the dedicated staff of ACCI, acknowledging their professionalism, commitment, and invaluable contributions to strengthening the Chamber and advancing Nigeria’s economic development.
The ACCI reaffirms its commitment to promoting strategic partnerships and policies that foster economic resilience, industrial growth, and improved welfare for Nigerian workers.
