NAGGW Donates 3,000 Seedlings to FCE Bichi, Plans Further Environmental Support.
KANO — The National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) has donated 3,000 tree seedlings to the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, Kano State, as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation and strengthen tree-planting activities in educational institutions.
The Director-General of NAGGW, Saleh Abubakar, disclosed this during a visit to the institution’s new site in Bichi Local Government Area, where he assessed the progress of its tree-planting activities and the management of previously planted trees.
Abubakar said the agency was working with institutions within its operational areas to promote tree planting as a practical approach to environmental protection and awareness creation. He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded at FCE Bichi, particularly the growth of trees planted at the institution in previous years.
According to him, the trees planted about three years ago had recorded significant growth, demonstrating the importance of sustained care and institutional commitment to environmental initiatives.
The NAGGW Director-General said the 3,000 seedlings already supplied represented the beginning of further interventions at the college. He disclosed that additional areas had been identified and fenced for planting, with the agency planning to provide more seedlings.
Abubakar also said Kano would receive greater attention following the relocation of NAGGW’s operational office from Abuja, noting that the development would enable the agency to deepen its environmental interventions and collaboration with institutions and communities across the state.
Earlier, the Provost of FCE Bichi, Dr Bashir Sabo Abubakar, commended NAGGW for the donation and its continued support for the institution’s environmental efforts. He said staff and students had embraced tree planting and called for wider partnerships to support environmental interventions on the college’s 50-hectare land.
The visit underscores the growing role of educational institutions in environmental conservation and the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, schools and communities to address environmental challenges, combat desertification and promote sustainable development.
