Nigeria, Kenya Explore Agricultural Partnership Through AGROMEQA Expo
The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has called for stronger economic and agricultural cooperation between Nigeria and Kenya, particularly in agribusiness, investment, technology transfer, value addition and agro-export.
The 1st Deputy President of ACCI, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, made the call when he led a delegation of the Chamber, on behalf of the President, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, on a courtesy visit to the High Commission of Kenya in Nigeria. He invited the Kenyan diplomatic mission and private-sector stakeholders to participate in the AGROMEQA EXPO 2026, scheduled for October 15–16, 2026, at the Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, Trade and Convention Centre, ACCI Complex, Abuja.
The Expo, themed “Technology and Investment for Agro-Export,” is designed to connect farmers, agribusinesses, investors, financial institutions, technology providers, processors, equipment manufacturers and policymakers to promote investment and partnerships across the agricultural value chain.
Prof. Adesugba highlighted Kenya’s expertise in horticulture, coffee, tea, cotton, dairy, livestock, irrigation, food processing and agricultural exports, noting that both countries could leverage their strengths through technology partnerships, joint ventures, business matchmaking and access to wider African and global markets. He particularly cited Kenya’s success in exporting flowers, avocados and fresh produce as areas from which Nigeria could draw useful lessons.
Responding, the High Commissioner of Kenya to Nigeria, H.E. Isaac Keen Parashina, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the strong relationship between the High Commission and ACCI. He described Kenya as a gateway to Eastern and Central Africa and said agriculture remains a major driver of employment and economic development, particularly for young people.
He expressed the High Commission’s readiness to support AGROMEQA EXPO 2026 and the 21st Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF), scheduled for September 25–October 12, 2026, under the theme “Resilience, Trade, Taxation and Economy,” and indicated that the mission would explore the possibility of establishing a Kenyan Pavilion at the Expo.
Prof. Adesugba also invited the Kenyan mission to participate in the AITF, describing it as a flagship ACCI platform for trade and investment promotion. He said the Chamber looks forward to developing a structured Kenya–Nigeria Business and Agricultural Partnership through investment discussions, knowledge exchange, technology collaboration, business matchmaking and future trade missions.
The delegation included Dr. Bode Olasetemi Thompson, Vice President, Agriculture and Organiser of AGROMEQA EXPO; Dr. Chigozie Igwe, Vice President, ICT and Digital Economy; Mr. Nnaemeka Ezewesili; Dr. Samuel of JMT Plus Limited; and other ACCI officials and staff.
