Tinubu Extends 2025 Budget Implementation to December 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed an amendment extending the implementation of Nigeria’s 2025 budget by three months, giving Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) until December 31, 2026, to complete ongoing capital projects.
The extension, which moves the deadline from September 30 to December 31, 2026, follows the passage of the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, by the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29.
According to a statement by the Presidency, the amendment is intended to give government agencies additional time to execute projects and utilise funds already appropriated in the 2025 budget.
The extension is also expected to support the continuation of critical government programmes and reduce the risk of disrupting ongoing capital projects as the implementation period approaches its previous deadline.
President Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration of the bill, describing their action as an example of cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in the interest of the country.
The amendment comes as government agencies continue to implement capital expenditure commitments under the 2025 budget, with the extended timeline providing additional room for project execution.
