Olam Agri Invests $70m in Delta Feed Mill, Targets 1,800 Tonnes Daily Production Capacity
New facility to boost poultry and aquaculture feed production, strengthen livestock value chain and create employment opportunities
ABUJA, November 5, 2026
Olam Agri has committed $70 million to the development of an integrated animal feed manufacturing facility in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, in a major investment aimed at expanding Nigeria’s local feed production capacity, strengthening the livestock value chain and improving access to quality animal feed.
The facility, expected to commence operations in 2027, will comprise a poultry feed mill with a daily production capacity of 1,500 tonnes and an aquaculture feed mill capable of producing 300 tonnes daily. It will also feature storage infrastructure with a capacity of 125,000 tonnes.
Located on a 99.99-hectare parcel of land acquired by the company, the project is strategically positioned to serve poultry farmers, fish producers and livestock operators across the South-South and South-East regions. It is also expected to reduce reliance on feed supplies transported from the South-West, thereby improving distribution efficiency and access to essential agricultural inputs.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice-President and Business Head of Integrated Feeds and Proteins at Olam Agri Nigeria, said the investment reflected the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s agricultural potential and its commitment to supporting the growth of the country’s livestock sector.
He explained that expanding production capacity closer to farmers and customers would enhance access to quality animal feed, strengthen supply chains and improve productivity across the industry.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, described the project as a significant boost to the state’s economy, noting that it would generate employment, stimulate economic activities and strengthen agricultural production. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment that attracts credible investors and encourages private-sector participation.
Similarly, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Ifechukwudi Okonjo II, welcomed the investment and expressed the community’s readiness to support the project, emphasising the importance of ensuring that residents benefit from the employment and economic opportunities it would generate.
Also speaking, Sharad Gupta, President and Global Head of Integrated Feed and Protein at Olam Agri, said the new facility would significantly increase the company’s poultry and aquaculture feed production capacity while contributing to the development of Nigeria’s domestic animal protein industry.
Olam Agri already operates animal feed mills, poultry breeding farms, a hatchery for day-old chicks and a soybean crushing facility in Nigeria. The company has also introduced ruminant feed products to support livestock farmers and improve productivity.
The $70 million investment represents a significant opportunity for businesses operating within Nigeria’s agricultural and livestock value chains. With a combined daily production capacity of 1,800 tonnes of poultry and aquaculture feed, the facility is expected to improve the availability of locally manufactured feed, strengthen regional distribution networks and support the expansion of poultry and fish farming.
The project could also create new opportunities for farmers, agricultural input suppliers, distributors, logistics operators and other small and medium-sized enterprises linked to the livestock industry.
Beyond its immediate economic benefits, the investment underscores the importance of private-sector participation in agricultural industrialisation, local manufacturing and food security. By bringing production closer to farming communities, the facility is expected to address some of the supply and transportation challenges facing animal protein producers in the South-South and South-East regions.
